For me, the design process always starts with research. I need to understand the what and the why. What is the project really about, and why are we designing this in the first place. I ask questions like, why are we designing this feature, and do we even need it. Those early questions help me avoid unnecessary complexity and make sure we are solving the right problem.

I always look at both the user and the system. The experience has to work for the person using it, but it also has to make sense within the wider ecosystem, the organisation, and the long-term direction of the product.
